Compare the whole rental quote, not just the daily rate
Research checked November 5, 2026 (Pacific Time). Yard policies differ; examples are not national averages.
Ask for a written quote separating equipment time, metered use, attachments, delivery, pickup, waiver or insurance charges, taxes, fuel, cleaning and possible extra-trip charges. Record the quote's location, dates and expiry. A rate without that context is not a reliable comparison.
A “day” can mean two different things
Calendar possession and allowed engine hours are separate. Aztec Rental Center publishes 8 metered hours for a day, 40 for a week and 160 for four weeks. T&T publishes one 10-hour shift per day, five 10-hour shifts per week and twenty per 28 days. Those policies are not interchangeable. Ask how overtime is calculated, when the clock begins, how extensions work and when an off-rent request takes effect.
Delivery is not always round-trip or included
Summit Rentals states that delivery is billed each way by machine size and distance. Its published bands extend through 50 miles, but jobs beyond 50 miles are quoted: this is not proof of a hard 50-mile service limit. Aztec Rental Center says delivery/pickup are quoted and excludes setup or takedown. Ask about access, ground conditions, unloading space, pickup readiness and failed-trip charges.
A damage waiver is not automatically insurance
Read the actual agreement. Aztec Rental Center publishes a 12% waiver on most equipment with exclusions including unsecured transport, misuse, abuse, theft and flat tires. That is one yard's policy, not an industry-wide fee or coverage guarantee. T&T describes an optional waiver but does not publish its percentage on the page checked; the percentage stays unknown.
Bring the documents the yard actually requests
Aztec Rental Center requests a Texas driver license and vehicle insurance; out-of-state licenses are considered at its discretion with possible additional documentation or deposit. Do not generalize this to other yards or mistake a yard's ID policy for an operator qualification or CDL rule.
