Spring Landscaping Equipment Rental Checklist
Spring is when many homeowners and landscapers rent compact equipment for yards that sat idle all winter. Use this checklist before you book.
1. Match the machine to the job
- Grading beds, moving mulch or gravel → skid steer or compact track loader
- Drainage trenches, tree planting holes, small demolition → mini excavator
- Removing old stumps → stump grinder (call 811 first)
- Hauling spoil or debris off site → dump trailer behind a suitable tow vehicle
2. Soft ground and lawns
Wet spring soil is easy to rut. Ask the yard about rubber tracks or turf-friendly options, and plan plywood or mats for soft approaches.
3. Access and neighbors
Measure gates and side yards. Confirm delivery truck access and whether someone must be on site. Tell neighbors if work will be noisy.
4. Digging safety
Contact 811 a few business days before any digging so utilities can be marked. Waiting rules vary by state.
5. Questions for the yard
- Exact machine size and attachment list for your dates
- Delivery window versus pickup/tow requirements
- Damage waiver exclusions (tracks, tires, undercarriage)
- Fuel or charging policy on return
